The beauty industry has made skincare so complicated. With so many products in the market from cleansers to serums and a billion brands out there, I personally sometimes find it challenging to figure out the correct order to layer skincare products. Might sound super basic but I know this would help a lot of you out there, since I always get so many questions about it.
My skincare routine is linked here. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I love a good skincare routine.
Correct Order to Layer Skincare:
You should always apply your skincare going from the lightest weight of the product to the higher weight. Ex: the toner will go first since it is very watery in consistency, and the moisturizer will go on last since its the thickest. This will help the products to penetrate deep into the skin and be effective.
In the morning: I use Cleanser, Vitamin C serum, Hyaluronic acid Serum, Sunscreen.
In the evening: I double clean my face, so I use an oil-based Cleanser, Cleanser/Exfoliator, Toner, Serums, Retinol, Face Oil.
Note: I alternate between Retinol and an AHA/BHA serum at night because it is not recommended to use them together, since both of these can be harsh on your skin. So do not use these together. I like to use a Retinol Serum two times a week and an AHA/BHA serum the other days.
If you are just starting out with skincare, start with the basics, and build up as needed. You can have a read of this post on basic skincare routine.

Oil doesn’t go before moisturizer…
This is what works for me. Actually using the oil before a moisturizer is still correct in most cases- the oil has a smaller molecular structure to penetrate the skin more deeply with vitamins and nutrients, while the moisturizer on top will prevent water loss from the top layers of the skin
