YOUR ULTIMATE 7 STEP FALL SKINCARE ROUTINE

Today let’s talk about transitioning your Skincare Routine to Fall from Summer. I know thinking about your fall skincare routine might be a bit early for some of you, as it is for me right now. But, trust me this is when you should start thinking about your Fall skincare routine.

This skincare routine is truly a transition skincare routine. You will still be able to wear it during the days where the weather is still like summer and the skin still feels a little greasy, but at the same time, this fall skincare routine will help you to prepare your skin for the upcoming colder months.

In this post, I will talk more about the nighttime skincare routine, so if you want me to do a morning fall skincare routine let me know in the comments below.

Night Time Fall Skincare Routine:

1) OIL BASED CLEANSER:

If you ask me, cleansing your skin is the most important step of any skincare routine. If you don’t clean your skin right, no matter what products you use, later on, it won’t give you the best results. Double cleansing is when you clean your skin first with an oil or gel-based cleanser before going in with your regular cleanser.

Double cleansing is super important because the first cleanse with a gel or oil-based cleanser removes the makeup, sunscreen, and the pollutants that may have accumulated in your pores throughout the day.

The Clinique cleansing balm is one of my favorite products for fall and winter. It is so simple and hydrating on your skin, without making it look greasy. The main ingredient is the Safflower seed oil, which is great for oily skin as well as acne-prone skin. It removes your makeup so well and is fragrance-free.

2) CLEANSER

The next step after the first cleanse is to use a face cleanser. This one from skinfix is perfect for the upcoming months as well as for summer really. What I love about this cleanser is, it is very gentle on my skin but cleanses my skin without stripping it and making it dry.

3) TONER:

In the Fall I like to use a toner that is hydrating but also has some exfoliating properties to it. This helps to keep my skin clear and bright, but at the same time really hydrated.

The squalene and BHA pore minimizing toner from Biossance is perfect. It is not harsh on my skin and truly keeps it hydrated and also minimizes the pores around my cheeks.

4) HYDRATING SERUM

I like my skin to be extra hydrated in the fall, so I love to include a hydrating serum in my nighttime fall skincare routine.

This serum from Caudalie is really nice and hydrating. If your skin needs a little extra hydration boost, try this one out. It is perfect since one of the main ingredients in it is Hyaluronic acid.

5) RETINOL FOR FALL SKINCARE ROUTINE:

I feel like everyone needs a Retinol, especially if you are in your 30’s and above. Even people with sensitive skin need retinol. I plan to do a dedicated blog post in the future all about Retinols. So, make sure to subscribe to the blog.

Retinol will help your skin by tightening it and will also help with acne overall. Retinol truly has a lot of skin-benefiting properties and therefore deserves its own post.

The thing with Retinol is, if you are new to Retinol, you have to start using it at a lower strength and slowly build it up. So start with the lowest strength once a week and build it up slowly to where your skin can tolerate the higher strength.

I use Paula’s Choice Retinol 1%. This one also has Vitamin C in it. So for this step, use a Retinol that is the lowest strength, if you are a newbie to retinol, but definitely include it in your fall skincare routine.

I use Retinol once a week.

6) LACTIC ACID/GLYCOLIC ACID SERUM:

On the nights that I am not using the retinol, I use a serum that has actives in it such as Lactic Acid and Glycolic Acid.

Lactic Acid and Glycolic Acid are exfoliating products for your skin, so really helps to brighten the skin and removes the dead skin layers by penetrating deeper into your skin.

These serums from Sunday Riley and Drunk Elephant are really good and you will always find it in my skincare routine.

7)MOISTURIZER:

Now onto the most important step of any skincare routine but especially for fall and winter. Use a moisturizer that is really hydrating and protects your skin barrier. Protecting your skin barrier from cold and dry weather in the colder months is really important.

If your skin barrier is not balanced, it can cause your skin to break out and make it look dull.

The SkinFix Barrier + Triple Lipid moisturizer is amazing. I love this moisturizer. As we age, we tend to lose lipids from our skin more frequently, and this is even more important to be taken care of in the colder months. This moisturizer works on building that lipid barrier for your skin.

So that was my nighttime fall skincare routine. I know it’s still quite hot out, but trust me when I say, you want your skin to have a good transition to fall and be ready for the colder months, rather than getting it to a dry place in the first place and then treating it.
