If you are using the same products that you used in your 20s, it’s time to reconsider your skincare routine and add a few more products that are especially targeted and essential for your skin in your 30s. While the skin may experience similar problems—i.e. breakouts and oily skin, and there is nothing wrong in using the same products, you need to consider or add new products in your 30s that are targeted for aging skin. In particular, your 30s are a time to get serious about anti-aging and start incorporating skincare essentials that target fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and other premature signs of aging.
I have simplified my skincare routine with fewer but effective products. These are the products that I use and find to be very effective when it comes to taking care of my skin in my 30s.
1. Targeted Cleanser
Protecting your skin barrier is one of the most important things in your 30s. I love to use a gentle but effective cleanser that has great antioxidants and removes the impurities from my face without stripping away the essential moisture. My favorite is the La Roche Posay Cleanser, but some of my other favorites are mentioned below:
2. Antioxidant Serum
Vitamin C and E serums improve the appearance of your skin tone, texture, and firmness while supplying all-day protection from free radicals and premature aging. Vitamins C and E are released gradually throughout the day, to promote collagen production for a brighter, smoother, and more luminous complexion. I use a Vitamin C serum as a part of my morning skincare routine. The SkinCeuticals Vitamin C serum is still my favorite. It’s expensive but worth every penny. I have other affordable Vitamin C serums listed here, if you are interested.
3. Peptide Serums
Peptides are great for anti-aging and smoothing out the fine lines or preventing them. Therefore, I love to add a peptide serum to my nighttime skincare routine. It helps to make my skin look more firm, plump and smooth. These are some of my favorite peptide serums.
4. Retinol
Retinol increases skin cell production. It helps unclog pores. Retinol also exfoliates your skin and increases collagen production, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving your skin a fresher, plump appearance. If you are new to retinol, start slow by using the lowest strength first and then slowly increasing the intensity as your skin gets used to the retinol.
5. Sunscreen
Rain or shine, wear your sunscreen. I cannot stress this enough. It is easier to prevent sun damage that can eventually lead to premature aging and fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and melasma rather than to treat it later. Wearing your sunscreen every day is just as important in your 30s if not more as it was in your 20s.
