If you follow me on Instagram, you know I always talk about how facials have changed my skin over the years, and I have been lucky enough the past couple of years to have found some of the best estheticians ever. Today, I want to share the best facial treatments that I have had over the years, that are totally worth every penny and have truly transformed my skin.
I truly believe that if you find an esthetician who really understands your skin and is great at doing facial treatments per your skin type, they can truly change your skin. It is a very personal journey to find an esthetician that you love. I will give you a few pointers on what I personally look for below.
Facials can truly provide the benefits if you get it once every 4-6 weeks, but on top of that having a good skincare routine is as important, because you have to make sure you nourish your skin at home. If you are looking to start a good skincare routine at home that you can follow daily, this beginner skincare routine talks about the products you truly need will help you to develop one.
HOW TO FIND A GOOD ESTHETICIAN:
- Do you research and read lots of google reviews. Pay attention on keywords in reviews like harsh, extractions, breakouts, acne
- I can almost guarantee this but a good esthetetian will always do a skin consultation even before starting a treatment. Because, a facial is a treatment that should be customized as per your own skin needs. Every time I go for facial, my esthetician does a quick consult and goes over where my skin stands before the treatment. You can even go for a skin consultation beforehand and get the feel of the salon and the esthetician.
- The extractions that they perform will not cause new breakouts. This will take time for your to see. You will be able to review this once your first treatment is done.
If you live in Atlanta, my favorite esthetician to go to is Jessica at Savvy Skincare.
FACIALS THAT ARE WORTH YOUR MONEY:
HYDRAFACIAL:
Hydrafacial is a three-step process, that works to:
- Deep-clean, exfoliate, and hydrate your skin.
- This professional procedure may help treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne, dryness, and wrinkles.
- Hydrafacial can improve your overall skin texture, pores, and appearance. The serums applied during the treatment include some chemical exfoliating serums such as glycolic & lactic acids and a hyaluronic acid serum. The serums used are usually customized as per your skin type and concern. Hydrafacial usually costs about $150-300 depending on where you are and what is offered as a part of the treatment.
If you are in your late 20’s and above, are looking to improve the texture and appearance of your skin, you will love this facial. Hydrafacial has also been shown to reduce the signs of aging. Regular treatments every 4-6 weeks will give your skin the nourishment and the glow you are looking for.
MICRODERMABRASION:
Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure used to:
- renew overall skin tone and texture. It can improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, melasma, and other skin-related concerns and conditions.
- Like the HydraFacial, the microdermabrasion procedure uses a special applicator with an abrasive surface to gently sand away the thick outer layer of the skin to rejuvenate.
If you are dealing with hyperpigmentation, scarring, dull-looking complexion, sun damage, microdermabrasion can help your cell turnover and give your skin what it needs. Microdermabrasion costs around $150.
LED FACIAL
These are not as well known as microdermabrasion and HydraFacial.
LED therapy is a non-invasive treatment that exposes your skin to light energy, which is then absorbed into the surface at various depths to stimulate reactions within the skin.
- This promotes cellular growth and repair and gives you a healthy, youthful glow.
- LED facials to use red or blue light for a short period of time, to reduce acne breakouts and redness. LED light therapy is a safe, painless, and highly effective treatment that’s suitable for all skin types. Light therapy doesn’t use any UV light whatsoever, meaning that you won’t get a tan or cause any type of harm to your skin.
- Blue light therapy is used to treat acne, as it contains antibacterial properties to decrease oil production and prevent future breakouts without further irritating the skin. I cannot even tell you the number of times I have personally received this treatment. I love to get this done when I have active breakouts and want to calm my skin down. Almost immediately, the breakouts feel better and it also stops the new breakouts from coming out.
- Red light works to reduce redness and inflammation while hydrating the skin. It also encourages cellular repair and increased circulation to the face, and is known to treat rosacea.
If you are in your 20’s dealing with hyperpigmentation and active breakouts, this is perfect for you. Honestly, the LED light therapy is perfect for all skin types and ages. I have sensitive skin and it works great on me too.
ANTI ACNE FACIAL:
Extractions are almost always a part of a facial.
- If you suffer from extremely congested pores, a deep declogging facial that helps to clear up the skin is a good choice.
- Many spas offer it as a medicated skin clearing treatment. Opening up the pores (with or without steam) and extracting whatever is in them can help to clear up the skin and reduce oil too.
One thing to keep in mind is to find a spa and esthetician who is really experienced with extractions. If not, it can cause your skin more harm than good.
The last thing, I wanted to point out is you can always combine these multiple treatments together. For example, I have combined LED light treatment with basic acne facial.
I hope this post helped you to decide on your next facial appointment. What are some of your favorite facial treatments?
Skincare recommendations by my Esthetician Read all about it here.
I have been facing acne problems on my face a lot for the past few months. I went to the doctor and she gave me some cream to apply on it. By applying that my skin has become more dry. By reading your blog, I got to know about anti-acne facials. I think I would try this facial and see whether it works for me or not.
Thank you for sharing this blog with us
I understand. I know the creams they give sometimes are meant to dry out the acne, but it can dry out the skin as a whole.
I would recommend getting facials regularly.
