Itinerary: Merida and Holbox Island (Mexico)

Hey there, I am sharing my itinerary with you so it is easier for you to plan. Do not forget to read my blog about Holbox for some more information on my trip. I hope this helps!

Day 1:

Reach Cancun

Rent a Car in Cancun- I would recommend renting a car which is fully insured rather than having a taxi because that would be more economical.

Spend a day in Cancun

Day 2:

[emaillocker]

Merida

Drive from Cancun to Merida- 3-4 hours

Tip: Start early morning from Cancun, this way you can spend some time in Izamal and still reach Merida by 3pm to roam around the town of Merida.

Izamal (the yellow town is great to have a stop) since it is on the way from Cancun to Merida.

Izamal:

Things to see:

Convento de San Antonio de Padua

Lunch (if you want to have lunch in Izamal)

Kinich El Sabor de Izamal

Merida:

Note- Merida is in Central time zone

Reach by 3pm

Food:

Must go for Drinks:

Places to see:

Hotel In Merida:

There are lot of great hotels but we stayed here, which was simply beautiful:

Viva Merida

Day 3, 4:

Holbox is in Eastern Time Zone

Drive to Holbox and take a ferry.

Holbox has no cars on the island, so you will need to park your car at Chiquila (3.5 hours) from Merida. You will find a lot of overnight parking places right outside the ferry station (100 pesos per night).

Ferry from Chiquila to Isla Holbox (Every half an hour)

Hotel:

Palapas del Sol

Lunch:

Viva Zapata

There are many other great lunch and drinks places listed on my blog so do check it out there for more options.

Must see:

Beach hammocks near Zomay hotel and Villas Tiburon (Hammocks)

Sunset at Zomay hotel

Punta Mosquito (flamingos)- Flamingos are only visible during certain time of the year.

Other beach clubs:

Coquitos Beach Club and Restaurant

Barquito Mawimbi Beach Bar & Restaurant

Carolinda Beach Club

If you need an ATM in Holbox which gives you Pesos- Bancomar, it is located near the police station.

Day 5:

Drive back to Cancun and Fly back.
