HOW TO PREVENT HAIR LOSS – PART 1

As unsettling as it sounds, for the past six months, I was dealing with hair loss and after trying multiple things from expensive hair masks to oils, I finally found the right products that work for me. These products have helped me to control my hair thinning and loss.

I was coming back from the gym one day and noticed my ponytail being thinner than normal. Then I started noticing losing more hair in the shower than usual.

I want to be honest and start this post by saying, my hair fall was more than usual for me to notice but it was not alarming to the level that my scalp was showing and I had bald patches. But if you suffer from hair thinning and loss, have bald patches, or are noticing overall thinning, these products can for sure help with that.

With so many products and influencers out in the market promoting products, I feel like it is very hard to find something that works for you. Expensive products labeled as “ayurvedic” does not mean they will work to prevent hair loss. Just because it worked for a certain influencer does not mean it will work for you. So be patient, try out the products for a month and see it for yourself.

I tried this hair care routine for 3 months, for me to truly notice any results.

This is Part 1 of the product recommendations. I will split the hair care routine into different parts so that it is easier for you to include it in your routine.

Although you may have first noticed your hair thinning when your ponytail started shrinking, the cause of thinning hair actually starts at the scalp and not the strand. This is why making sure you’re using the right hair care products is crucial for your scalp and the overall health of your hair. The best hair care products can improve the volume, growth, and circulation of the follicles, creating an environment for hair to thrive.

Btw, did you know of the fact that it is completely normal for a healthy individual to lose 50-100 strands of hair daily?.

Details on my hair: My hair is thin but I do have a lot of hair. I have an oily scalp and it is medium length. I have color-treated my hair before, but before a year around the pandemic, I completely stopped getting balayage and therefore it’s in my original color- black.

Shampoo and Conditioner for Hair Loss:

As mentioned above, I have thin hair that lacks volume. As my hair was thinning I leaned towards using shampoos labeled as “volumizing shampoo”. This was a mistake. I found that even though I had oily scalp the volumizing shampoos, overly irritated my follicles instead of nourishing it. My hair was oily but my scalp was dry. There was an imbalance in the PH of my scalp. This is a great article that explains all about hair PH.

Maintaining a proper scalp and hair PH is very important. You need to nourish your hair follicles and clean them instead of over drying it. After trying a bunch of different shampoos and conditioners, and a lot of research I came across the Alterna Hair care products. I saw a YouTube video of somebody who lost a lot of hair and used the Alterna products because it was targeted towards hair that is aging and is exposed to environmental stressors.

I am so glad I tried the Alterna Caviar Anti-aging Replenishing Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner. Notice the word anti-aging and moisture in there. My oily scalp self would have never used a moisturizing shampoo before. But, this shampoo is not greasy and does not leave my hair with an oily film that weighs it down, it actually replenishes my hair and the follicles with the right moisture that my hair needs.

The shampoo and the conditioner leaves my hair super clean and nourished with a soft bounce without weighing it down. I love it. It is so worth the money.

After using it for a month, I noticed my hair was for sure stronger and more nourished. Less frizzy and my scalp irritation was completely gone.

Aveda Damage Remedy:

I decided to try the Aveda Damage Remedy product since my hair stylist recommended it. It is a GAME CHANGER. It is a treatment that protects hair from heat styling and environmental damage.

I use it when my hair is still damp and let it air dry or blow dry my hair on cool setting of the blow dryer. More on that later. I love how this product does not weigh my hair down but makes it stronger. After using it for a month I noticed a difference in the way my hair felt. It was stronger for sure.

Heat styling & Hair loss:

One last thing in this series of my hair care routine, that I changed is, I completely stopped heat styling my hair on regular basis. I only blow dry my hair on cool setting most of the days and keep the heat styling for special occasions.

Yes it’s an adjustment, but it is a better adjustment that loosing hair for sure. So, I highly suggest for you to stop blow drying your hair on regular basis. If you cannot give that up, let your hair air dry till its almost dry before you blow dry it, since that will make sure your hair is not exposed to heat for a long time.

This is it for today. If you enjoyed this post, make sure to subscribe to the blog since I will be sharing Part 2 of this hair care routine soon. Part 2 will cover, all the other products (oils, masks etc.) I use to keep my hair healthy and prevent hair loss.
