I love to try different skincare products especially masks. I wanted to try the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask because it has been all the hype in the past few years, and I have heard mixed opinions about it. So, I decided to try it myself to see if the hype was worth it?
I have to admit- I did not hate it, but it is not something I would repurchase again unless I am trying to combat extremely dry skin.
These are just some of my personal opinions about the mask, you might absolutely love it and that’s fine. Everybody’s skin needs and texture, as well as the requirements as to what each of us wants from a mask, is different, therefore if you love this mask do not take it personally.
Here are the reasons why I was a little disappointed with the Summer Friday’s Jet Lag Mask:
The ingredients :
Curious about the ingredients in the Jet Lag Mask? Some of the key active ingredients are Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Arginine along with the mint oil. The ingredients, in general, look okay. The only concern I had with of the ingredients is the “peppermint oil”, it irritated my skin a little bit. The mask does smell really refreshing and fresh because of the mint in it, but it does hurt my skin.
My skin is probably more sensitive to a lot of you out there, so I have to take care of what I put on it. So, if you have sensitive skin, try this mask for yourself but be cautious to not leave it for more than 30 minutes the first time you apply it since you might get irritated skin.
- Vitamin C: helps with collagen synthesis
- Vitamin E: antioxidant that helps defend from pollution
- Arginine: increases skin hydration and boosts collagen production
- Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil
It is like a very thick moisturizer:
This mask is definitely more for dry skin. When I have dry skin, I’d rather use a night cream versus a mask. In my opinion, masks should clear out your pores, or brighten your skin tone.
I would rather spend my money on a good quality thick moisturizer like the Drunk Elephant Lala Retro with Ceramides, which will help my skin with the dryness.
There are other affordable alternatives that work just as well, and do not irritate my skin:
For $48, I expected this mask to work miracles. You guys already know, I love good quality face masks and am ready to splurge on beauty items but they should be worth the price. If you want to buy a mask that is just as hydrating and half the price of the Summer Fridays Jet lag Mask, try the Glossier Moon Mask.
The Glossier Moon Mask is formulated with Sweet Almond Oil, plant-based Squalane, and Hyaluronic Acid to boost the skin’s hydration. It has the Licorice Root and Lemon Fruit Extract that brightens the complexion. I love Squalene in skincare products, it works like a miracle. Squalene balances oil production, providing just enough moisture to keep the skin clear and healthy. Squalane also has powerful anti-aging properties.
Therefore the Glossier Moon Mask is a must-try! I love it.
Another great alternative to the Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask is the COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask. This mask intensely hydrates and brightens skin. It’s packed with niacinamide, a brightening ingredient, and hydrating sunflower seed oil. This mask will definitely deliver the hydration you are looking for at less than half the price of the Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask. Highly recommend this one.
One benefit of the Jet Lag Mask is it is easy to use. Simply apply on cleansed, dry skin, wait 10 minutes, and then rise off. According to the Jet Lag Mask usage instructions, you can “blot with a warm cloth if necessary – no need to rinse!” However, I’d recommend rinsing it off to avoid irritation.
Just because I didn’t love the Jet Lag Mask by Summer Fridays doesn’t mean I’m going to give up on the brand. I absolutely LOVE the two founders– Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Gores Ireland so definitely going to try the other products such as the overtime mask.
