If you guys don’t know this about me- I love everything Home Decor. Last year we bought our first home and it is oddly comforting for me to decorate it. It is an opportunity for me to turn the place into my dream home.
It does not matter if you are decorating your new home for the first time, which is more or less like a blank canvas or it is your old home that you need to redecorate, there are a few pieces that are considered home decor essentials, and are must to have.
I am sure these 8 home decor essentials will help you to kick start your home decor journey.
1. Plants: Home Decor Essential
The number one home decor essential for me are Plants. Faux or real, plants can bring any space to life. Plants are great for corners, as well as shelves and make your space look better overall.
I love hanging plants to give my house more of a bohemian vibe. Tropical plants are also one of my favorites for more of a relaxing appeal.
I am planning a whole blog post dedicated to plants as a part of my home decor blog series so, keep a lookout for that.
2. Vases: Home Decor Essential
A vase is an incredible accessory that is timeless. You will never get to see a vase go out of style. I love to have vases in different textures (from glass to wood, clay to seagrass, and more) to decorate coffee tables and shelves.
It is such a great decor piece just by itself or to display flowers. A vase is a perfect choice when you are decorating your dining area or coffee table.
3. Art: Home Decor Essential
There is something about good quality Art, which brings a cozy feeling to any space. I love a good art piece.
I recently decorated my dining room space with an exceptional art piece from Z Gallerie. If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen it already.
I am also really in love with this living room gallery wall that I created with Desenio. All the pieces are so gorgeous – it’s a really great spot to go for beautiful, affordable art!
4. Area Rugs: Home Decor Essential
Area rugs add so much warmth and personality, and really are a perfect decor piece! Once you add an area rug to your space, the whole room transforms.
I love how this area rug in our guest bedroom is giving it so much personality. Here’s the one that is similar.
5. Statement Chairs: Home Decor Essential
Statement chairs bring the room together. They definitely add so much depth to any room. Based on your home decor aesthetic, incorporate textures like wicker or velvet.
You can get one or a matching set of two. I absolutely love this statement chair that we have from the World Market, along with this leather chair in our living room from West Elm.
6. Books: Home Decor Essential
Books and magazines can bring your inner personality into your home décor. It is my favorite way to add a personalized touch to an area. Books can add chicness as well as a feeling of sheer comfort that everyone wants in their home.
I love to decorate my coffee table with some chic style inspired books, as well as my kitchen with some cookbooks.
7. Mirrors: Home Decor Essential
I love mirrors, especially floor mirrors. Mirrors are functional and great for decor as well. I love to decorate any bedroom, a smaller entryway or an empty wall with a mirror.
Mirrors also help to create an illusion of a bigger room because they bring so much light to any space. I am in love with this French-style floor mirror from Arahaus, which is perfect for my entry-way.
8. Throws and Throw pillows: Home Decor Essential
Again, I love the feeling of a cozy space. A good throw/ throw pillow is such an affordable way to add texture and style to any space. It’s such an easy and affordable way to decorate without spending much money.
Fur throws and pillows are my favorite way to add texture on a neutral couch or bed. I love this throw from Arahaus. It brings so much texture to my plain grey couch.
These 8 essentials have helped me to transform my house into a cozy and welcoming space. I hope you got some inspiration to decorate your own space. Happy Decorating! Is there something else you would add to this list?

You made me squeal with delight when you indicated that there are a few items that are regarded home design basics, and are must-haves, regardless of whether you are decorating your new home for the first time, which is essentially like a blank canvas, or it is your old home that you need to refurbish. I needed to read this before starting to buy home furnishings because I recently moved into my dream house with my husband. Gosh, I am just so excited to buy an outdoor wagon wheel bench and all sorts of stuff.
