5 Fall Boot Styles you need in your closet.

Now that we are swapping out our iced coffees for pumpkin spice lattes, it’s time to toss those sandals to the back of your closet — fall boots are here. Today, I wanted to talk about a fall staple, boots.

I feel like boots are the first thing people get excited about in fall, other than the sweaters. The great thing about boots though, is that you can still wear them with denim shorts and it doesn’t have to be super cold for you to rock your boots on.

Shoes are the easiest way to spice up your closet cost-effectively. If you buy one pair of shoes, they can be worn all season long.

Here’s your guide to all of my favorite boot styles for the fall and winter and how I style them with different outfits:

The Colored Ankle Boot:

For the first pair, I wanted to talk about the colored boot. My favorite way to incorporate colored booties is to go with either white or red. Yes, I know white is still a neutral, but trust me, if you have ever tried pairing white boots with your outfit, you know it’s hard to style sometimes- because it is a little dramatic.

The same goes for red boots. I know a lot of you might stay away from them, and always go for your everyday color “black” but once you start treating your colored booties like your black booties, things will become much easier.

Whenever I wear a colored boot, I usually go for a neutral color palette such as a white shirt and jeans, or an all-black outfit. Leopard print also looks really good with a red boot. Red also goes really well with plaid.

If you prefer a white boot, the best way to wear them is to tone your entire outfit down. Wear outfits that blend in with the white. The easiest way to do it is to wear outfits that have white in them.

I prefer not to wear super dark colors with white, like wearing black jeans with white shoes. Printed dresses or a light wash denim with white boots is also a very pretty look.

Printed boot (ankle bootie or a knee boot):

I am talking about “animal prints”. Leopard has a permanent spot as a neutral in my closet, but I love snakeskin too.

Printed boots are such a statement on their own. For me, the easiest way to wear them is to wear an all-black outfit whenever I am a little lost on what to wear these with. White, beige, tan and cream sweater dresses look really cute with printed boots too.

Printed knee boots with a midi dress or a sweater dress will look chic too. These snakeskin boots are so trendy at the moment.

My Everyday Black Boot:

So, let me tell you guys what I look for in my everyday black fall boots. I do not mind spending a little bit more money on these because I know I am going to wear them EVERYDAY.

Look for something very sleek, pointy toe, no hardware, and something tight around the ankle. I find that such a style is very easy to wear with dressier pants and trousers for work, as well as with any style of jeans, especially skinny and straight leg jeans.

I can rock them with skinny jeans as well as boot cut jeans or mom jeans. These boots are the most versatile style of boots.

If you are wearing straight leg jeans especially, you do not want to wear a boot that is loose around the ankle since it will not be flattering for your legs.

If you are looking for something versatile and sleek this one is my favorite.

Sock boots are also really trendy at the moment and can work as your basic black boot. But, they are a little tricky to wear, only because sock boots are like socks for your feet. Skinny jeans or straight leg jeans look really good with these.

Personally, I will never replace my everyday fall boots with a sock boot, but if you want to add something different in your closet, sock boots are a great addition to your wardrobe.

Over the knee boots:

Over the knee boots are some of my favorites. They instantly make me feel super chic and confident.

With over the knee boots, since the boot has so much material, you want to show off the boot and make them the focus of your outfit.

I love wearing them with short sweater dresses, or turtle neck dresses. Button-down dresses also look really pretty with an Over the knee boot. Leggings with a satin shirt and a leather jacket / long coat go really well with over the knee boots.

That way you can still wear a dress in fall because the boot will keep you warm.

A Chunky Boot:

A chunky boot is what I will wear if I want to add some grunge to my outfit.  I love to wear combat or chunky boot with a feminine outfit, like a maxi flowy dress. Styling a blazer with a chunky boot is also a really chic look. It is such an unexpected twist to an everyday outfit.

Feminine styled outfits will balance out the combat boots, and make it more unexpected chic. Also, they are really comfy, so what’s not to love.

Bonus- A slouchy boot

Guess what? The slouchy boot is back and I do not have any in my closet as of right now, but I am starting to see more and more of them and these are totally on my wishlist.

I feel like the slouchy boot style will look pretty with a midi dress. Midi dress will not cover the boot entirely and the boot and will also add some warmth to the outfit.

If you are not into the slouchy boot trend, you can also wear a regular mid-length boot that cuts off right beneath the knee. Oversized sweaters and skinny jeans look really cute with the mid-length boot.

Once in a while, I wear a mid-length boot on work too, and it gives my everyday outfit a different look.

Those are all my favorite fall boot essentials. When it comes to styling boots, just treat them like any other shoe, do not overthink about styling them. That is when a lot of people get frustrated.

Keep in mind, its all about the balance. So try not to wear a straight leg jean with a boot that has a wider cut on the ankle because that will make your ankle look much wider than it really is.

If you are wearing something like a red boot, you just need to have the confidence to make them a statement and focus your overall outfit around the boots.

Once you venture out of your everyday black boot, you will never go back. It will give you a confidence boost.

I will definitely be styling all of these boots on my Instagram, so make sure you follow me there and subscribe to my newsletter for future posts like these.
